People really need to be educated on historic guns. Story talks about how a lady inherited this gun from her father when he came back from Europe. She tried to bring it to the local police station to give it to them for their program that gives citizens a $50-$100 Walmart gift card for turning in guns to get them off the street. Thank God one of the officers knew there was a second World War and this was the first automatic assault rifle ever made.

Here's the story

This is why going to these BS Gun buy back programs could be worth it. Go hang around and out bid the cops.

Most people don't know anything about guns nor do they care to learn. All they think they know is what the media portrays which is guns kill people, people don't.

That is why my kids will know exactly what i have and what they are worth before i die. I have to give respect to the officers in knowing what she had and not allowing such an important fire arm to be smelted

Gun buy back programs are the biggest crocks of shite out there. What people don't get is that it doesn't get guns "off the street." All it does is screw over old people like this who have old guns worth more than 50 bucks. Luckily this story has a happy ending but most of them don't. What thug is going to willingly turn in the one tool that helps him kill other gangsters on the street? That's right - he won't.

I've considered going to the next gun buy back program Baton Rouge has. Anyone else want to go?

There are some NFA/ATF issues with that weapon also that are being discussed on other sites. Don't be surprised if the ATF decides to seize it.

Since that gun pre-dates the ATF they won't be able to do that.

Supposedly one of these "fell" out of a Democrats trunk in the Walmart Gas Station Somewhere, LA.

Allegedly purchased by a dude for a couple of hundred dollars.

The gun is still an unregistered NFA item. The ATF should allow her to do the paperwork and sell/transfer it with the proper paperwork on both ends.

Another way, since the gun was in her family the ATF won't be able to confiscate that gun. If it were gained by unlawful means then they could but since it was brought back after the war they won't be able to touch it.
