I grew up with:
Red on yellow,kills a fellow.
Yellow on black, friendly jack.

Also: Don't eat yellow snow.

Is there any king snakes like that in Louisiana, the only ones I see are the black and yellow speckled ones.

According to the ob snake doctor, you need a degree on this subject.
Maybe next time I'll take pics.
F that, I'll just put black stinking sob's in a fricking box and mailem to him.

Pretty much all the ground rattler sightings are brown snakes.

Ground RattlersLittle bitty shites...like to hide in hanging baskets at my folks house, and in thick asiatic jasmine and other ground covers.

Had one of my latino associates struck by one when we (he) were clearing out a stand of asiatic jasmine that had gotten out of it's boundaries. He swelled up a little bit right at the bite site, but that was about it. We called a doctor, captured the little fricker and put it in a 20 oz coke bottle, and were gonna take him and it to the doctor, but the doctor said just to watch it/him and see if it got worse. It didn't.

BT dont let Alx get to you. He's a damn lawyer. I'm around lawyers enough to know they know everything, and are really eager to tell you they know everything. He means well, but he seems anal tonight.

Put our your hand.
Let snake bite you.
2 sets of small holes and it's a water snake.
2 holes with blood and puss coming out, followed by extreme pain, swelling, vomiting and possible death and it's a moccasin.

You should have no more issues identifying snakes.

Suppose I kill a rattlesnake in ascension parish. What is it?

My uncle killed an eastern diamondback in ascension. It was close to 6', but I don't think the other small ones that we see sometimes are diamondbacks.

Had a little snake dead in my driveway last week.

It was what I thought was a ground rattler, but could have been a baby moccasin.

Pointed head, fangs, cat eyes..etc...

Now I really believe Alx, since most moccasins aren't even black.

Distinguishing features of a water moccasin:

Slit pupils
Pit viper shaped head
White inner mouth
Distinctive thick black stripe on side of face

They can be black, brown, yellow (especially the tips of the tails), mottled. Most are brown with mottling, and have a yellow tail. Some older ones will be mostly black, as they lose their mottling.
