Anyone have any info about deer hunting in Kentucky?

I'm looking to take a guided trip somewhere this year with my Dad and thinking of Kentucky being that neither of us have hunted Kentucky before. I've heard several good reports out of the eastern side of Kentucky the last few years. This area is in the Ohio River Valley and has had some big deer kills of late.

I'm thinking a four to five day semi-guided rifle hunt. We don't need someone to sit in the stand with us. We just want the lodging, stands set up over plots, etc. Budget is up to 5k per person.

Can you buy a big game license over the counter in Kentucky? When is the best time to go?

Kentucky has great deer hunting. It keeps getting better and moving up in the top deer hunting state list in the country. It's one of the best lesser know states but that won't last long.

We did a guided hunt with a reputable guide in western Kentucky about 5 years ago. The weather was bad and we hardly saw any deer. The guide let us come back later in the season but again the weather was bad and we didn't see much. My friend did miss a nice buck the last day of the hunt though.

Just food for thought. For 5k per person, you could probably lease a couple hundred acres for the entire season up there. My buddy subleases 300 acres for like 3 or 4k and killed several deer this past year. One nice buck and some big arse does.

I went last year in December with not much luck because of timing, but they have great deer up there and you can buy a license over the counter.

The Only thing that sucks about that is upkeep like planting, filling feeders, checking cameras, hanging stands, when you can't make a ton of trips up there. Also you can only legally kill one buck a year, but you can wear out some giant does. I have a guy I know who leases up there and I am looking for a lease for next season even though I had a very bad trip in December.
