I wanted to make a kayak rack that didnt take up any space in the bed of my truck. I made this rack to maximize space for ice chest and other gear in the bed.

Wanted to share with you guys and see what you think.

Already tested the braking issue. It is strapped where it wont move forward at all.

Thought about that when building it and put my tie downs where it would prevent the window issue.

Get rear ended and that kayak is going to be pushed straight through your back window and into the head of anyone in the backseat or front seat.

Dangerous set up in my opinion.

Yak to the head

I would rather have a ladder rack like diesel has. $80 from harbor freight.

I did consider the effect of a rear collision when building this. You cant tell by the picture but it is actually a little higher than the back glass. So even if hit straight on and the kayak was forced straight ahead it would go up because of the contour of the hull.
Braking alone it will not even move.

Thanks for your input though.
