Has anyone here done any Quail hunting in Kansas? I'm wondering what it would cost to lease a place in South Kansas.

Kansas has over 1 million acres of walk-in hunting, I don't think a lease is needed. I will be heading up for the opening of pheasant and quail to the NW portion of the state in a few weeks with some other OB posters. Quail numbers are as good as they ever have been, but Oklahoma and Texas will have plenty more quail than Kansas.

Leasing is the problem with hunting these days, don't bring that bullshite to the Midwest. Go hunt public access and knock on doors.

Honestly quail populations are so weather dependent I wouldn't be interested in leasing property for only quail. The areas that have high populations change every year. Plenty of public hunting in the bobwhite range, you just have to stay mobile.

We shot some pheasants up there while turkey hunting.

I've seen lots of quail on public land in Kansas, pheasants too. No need to lease.

It appears you have strong feelings.

Lets just say my experiences with public hunting (all here in La.) have been less than great.

Don't worry, I'm not going to offer to pay someone for an experience and privilege that you've been getting for free.

I believe the second part of you post is solid advice. Thanks!

That's your problem, your experience with public is in LA. Things on public are different in states west of the MS river and north of Tx/LA

It's a great year for quail. I live in NW Oklahoma and the quail are everywhere.

I will be in OK the end of November and two trips to Kansas shortly thereafter. I have heard excellent local reports. We shifted fro SD to OK/Kansas, plenty of public walk in and high bird numbers.
I look forward to some good posts from wick and the rest of you traveling bird hunters. Good luck.

We did the same, the drought slaughtered the pheasant numbers in SD this year.
