I'd be willing to let you follow me offshore for snapper out of dulac. It'd let you get to know the areas and your boat in offshore conditions while having a buddy boat near.

I was asking for fishing advice. I have been off shore before but never in this boat or any boat I have owned. I'm not asking anyone to feel sorry for me. I was simply asking for fishing advice not a course on boating safety.

The coast guard will only come save your arse once for free, the second time you get the bill.

I used to go to block 89 out of Venice all the time in a 24 mako with twin smoky Johnson's.

I have a 24' skeeter bay boat that I took offshore last year for snapper fishing. We left out of grand isle and the water was very calm. We went out about 25 miles and hooked up with snapper at the rigs we went to. We just hopped around and found the snapper.

I know you don't want to hear it, but having a buddy boat is a must when going out there with a single engine.

This story is a perfect example of what everyone is talking about. LINK

Ask those two guy that had to abandon a 24' champion last summer 20 miles south of grand isle about snapper fishing in a bay boat

The craziest I've done(not that crazy) is Tiger Shoals in a 21 foot aluminum bay boat

This. More of an insurance policy for piece of mind.

Don't do it unless you've spent lots of time out there with people who knew what they were doing

Snapper fishing is easy. Picking and choosing days and knowing when to call it all off even after the launch is different. I've got a sea pro 196 that I've been 25 miles offshore in multiple times. However those were very well calculated trips. I've also made the turn at dauphin island and decided to stay inshore/get drunk at sand island.

As for the fishing side. Find rigs or artificial reefs. I like water over 80ft deep. Try to mark fish. If u do catch them, if not find another spot.

IMO, your mind is made up and you aren't truly taking lots of good advice here.

I'd recommend going with an experienced person a trip or two.

Just plan well and be prepared for the worst

If you're going out Friday out of dulac, you can follow us but you have to keep up with Toonces's boat and with our beer drinking.

We have the same boat and I'm more than comfortable with taking it to some close rigs. Hell, crossing Terrebonne Bay is usually more rough than the gulf once I get through the pass.

If you've got boating safety down pat and understand when it's safe to make the run and when it's not, what kind of advice are you looking for? Bait? Locations? Rod/reel setup?

ETA: It may look like some posters are just being dicks for the fun of it, but they are concerned for your safety.

I'm planning on taking out my 24ft nautic star to go do some snapper fishing. Can anyone help me out and land me on a fish or 2?? I've never been deep sea fishing in this boat.
