Are they still open? I remember two trails, one I believe was the "palmetto trail", the other one we just called the "alligator trail" although I don't think that was the official name. It was many many years before Katrina so I have no idea if they are even still there, but they were pretty neat. I'd like to take the family there while the weather is nice.

I don't remember the trail names, but I went after Katrina - maybe 2007 or '08. I do remember it was cool, not cold and the foliage was thinner than during summer time. Nice boardwalks, plenty of birds, could see One Shell Square from the end of one of the trails. Interesting little visitor center. I need to go back!

Will give it a shot this weekend, thanks

All of the boardwalks were rebuilt and are in good shape. The Church just outside the flood gates has a fair this weekend so the trails may have a few more people than usual.

Went in June. Think it was Bayou Coquille trail that we did. Not the one that leaves from the visitor center, but the one at the end of that trail with the parking lot. The bayou where you make the 90 degree turn was pretty much full of lilies, so we didn't really spot any gators there. But on the walk up to the bayou we saw a couple gators and a few snakes as well. One looked something like this…well, exactly like this since this is it.
Saw this nice looking cottonmouth as well - he almost had a speckled look to him, though it doesn't show well in this pic.
Here's one of the gator's with an obligatory foot pic…

I'm pretty sexy and blend in with the teenagers.
