Is it worth replacing rod eyes

Went on vacation and had to send a couple rods home with in laws due to space limitations. Now my rod is scraping the line. Closer investigation reveals the eyes at the ends of the rods are cracked. It’s like a stainless loop with ceramic insert. Is it worth replacing the ceramic? I don’t use expensive equipment. Roughly $100 for rod and reel.
I guess the real question is how hard is it and does it hold up. I don’t want to fight my equipment or lose a nice fish to save a few bucks. Fishing hours are too hard to come by.

At that price range it's not worth it, just replace the rod.

I’m to hard on my rods, every one I own I buy stainless replacements and get rod builder to replace.

I will normally wait until I notice a chip in the ceramic.

Are you saying the end guide at the tip only? If so, those are very easy to change with the kit they sell at academy and a lighter or heat gun.

I've only replaced eyes on a rod once, and that was many years ago. The rod belonged to my dad who died when I was just 8 years old (now 71) and it was passed down to me and is one of the few things I still own that belonged to him.

He would use that heavy duty fiberglass rod with the turned wooden handle probably made in the 50's to fish for big cats on the Mississippi River and it caught many large fish to feed his family.

There was a place on St. Claude in the Lower 9th Ward called Colley's and they sold fishing supplies, crab, crawfish and trawl nets and repaired rods and reels.

And yes, to me it was well worth it.

This. I have done it so many times that I probably have 8-10 of those red glue containers.

I missed that, yeah, it's easy to replace the whole thing.

I've used those hot glue sticks to hold inserts in arrows before...

I bought a set in the hopes I could just replace that, and it seems like an impossible task.

I was going to put them in my freezer to shrink them and then heat up the stainless eye to enlarge it and see if I could get it in like that.

Having read this thread I’m just going to buy the complete setup as shown in the video.

Some of us get great satisfaction in repairing our things rather than tossing them. A sense of self sufficiency to make or repair what you need. Especially true outdoorsmen. This is the outdoor forum after all. But I understand what you are saying. Hope you can understand what Iam saying too.
