Finally decided to buy a firearm. Looking for a .45 XDS. There is one for about $429, which is $120 below retail. Seems too good of a deal to be legit. What says the OB?

As far as I know, it is legitimate. They've been around a long time. It has been some time since I bought anything from there, but I would assume the accuracy of descriptions varies from seller to seller - it is, after all, only a classified listing service.

That's like asking, "Is The New York Times a legitimate site?" because something is listed in the classified ads that appears to be "too good to be true" based on the price.

The site owners are strictly observant Orthodox Jews and passionate defenders of the 2nd Amendment - I can tell you that.

If you're not comfortable with GA there are plenty of other sites selling in that price range. LINK

Yes, I have bought and sold guns on GA. I will probably use them again.

Pretty sure I found the exact add you're talking about. Just remember (on this particular one) there's a $40 shipping fee and an FFL transfer fee to deal with.

If you're looking to save some money, look into the essentials kit. I picked up a 9mm xds essentials from Academy for $450 last week. Bought some Academy gift cards online for ~12% off so I wound up saving around $60.

Regarding gunsamerica, I've never bought anything from them so I can't personally say, but I have never heard any real complaints

What is this exactly?

That is pretty brilliant. Would have never considered that.

Simply put, when you purchase a firearm online it must be shipped to a Federal Firearms License holder (FFL). The FFL has you fill out a 4473 and process the background check. The FFL will charge you a fee for taking delivery and processing the check, usually $10-50 depending on where you go.

6-8 years ago the site was generally one to be avoided. The site attracted more than a "normal" share of scammers.

I've been told that the site has been cleaned up (they now have feedback ratings), but I haven't bought thru them and I can't offer any personal experience. I'd make sure I could use a credit card if I bought online from any seller -- JIC.

A few months ago I saw that quite a few sellers on gunbroker were not adding a surcharge for CC purchases. This probably changes with market conditions -- I'm sure when the next wave of panic buying starts, everyone will boost prices and add 3-4% for credit card purchases.
