A guy at work is getting rid of a bunch of stuff and has a curved shaft 25cc weedeater with an edger attachment for sale.

I've never owned a Ryobi product.

Mine ran fine for years. It finally died and I just replaced the motor and shaft with a bigger Husky. Still use my edger and trimmer attachments in it. If it starts up fine you can get some use out of it.

I had one once. Mine was great for a year until it started giving me problems. If it's $50, and you don't have a weedeater currently, I'd say get it.

I won't own another curved shaft weedeater in my life if I can help it.

I had one that I bought from Lowes for $89 for about 5 years. They are cheap, but mine worked OK for what I used it for. I bought a new one without the curved shaft, seems easier on my back, and gave my Ryobi to my BIL.

Forgot to mention that he used it twice and wants $50 for it.

It looks brand new. I'm just not sure if Ryobis hold up over time.

Just get an Echo SRM-225. It's perfect for the average homeowner.

I already have a Stihl FS45.
Picked it up next to a neighbors garbage they put out. I asked if he was getting rid of it before I took it.

A $12 trigger assembly and it's been working fine for 2 years now.

The Ryobi would be for my son or wife to use since its lighter.

I've had my ryobi 2 stroke for 6 years now. I run only trufuel in it, and it cranks right up every single time.

Best weed eater i've had. (no echos or stihls, etc.)

I would get it. Not much risk there.

If your wife is weedeating, I shouldn't be giving you any advice. You've obviously already figured something out.

Husqvarna 224 L is the way to go.

Mine wanted to "learn" how to cut the grass last weekend. Right after she washed her van. And I had to rewash a large part of it since she wasn't doing all that well. Couldn't get the mower to crank on her own, couldn't drive a straight line with it, and after about 5 minutes she gave up and said no wonder I'm give out after cutting the grass. And that was just a small part of the front yard that is relatively flat. No way I'd turn her loose with an edger or weedeater. At least now she appreciates my working in the yard a little more.

Anybody owned cordless(battery) powered weed eater/trimmer? I need one for edging and weed eating around the house and sidewalk. Any recommendations on voltage? 20-24-40-54?

None of the "cheaper" ones last very long. They are basically disposable. Do your best to maintain them for 3-5 years and then buy a new one. If you can't work on them yourself, you'll spend more on labor to get them fixed than they are worth. If you want soething that will last a while, you have to step up in price.

I would say $50 is probably a decent deal as long as its running well now.

Had one a while back. One thing I didn't like was that the head rotation was counter clockwise (looking from overhead) and it "flung" everything back at your legs. Hit a few rocks from time to time and ended up bleeding sometimes.

I prefer any trimmer that spins clockwise so the clippings and debris get pushed away and to the right...

(all the above is applicable only to right handed users)
