In market for first hand gun. Either a .9mm or .22 that the wife can handle.

There's the gun show in Kenner this weekend. Never been to gun show, is this the ideal place to make this purchase?

Are the deals better there and typical retail store? What should I be looking for if I go?

Those things are crap unless you are looking for beef jerkey and rebel flags (not that there is anything wrong with that)...

I'd go to the gun show and get a feel for what you like but do not buy from there. Do more research after you narrowed your decision and then find a good deal. Gun shows are mostly overpriced.

My prior gun purchase was academy.

Internet dealers will usually have the best deals because of lower overhead. A good source that is hard to beat in price is Bud's Gun Shop.

Terrible place to make the purchase, great place to handle the weapons.

The internet is a good source, if you are still around Ponchatoula visit Interstate Guns. The internet has some good deals as well, but finding a cheap FFL that wont offset that savings can sometimes be a challenge.

Go to the gun show to handle lots of different guns then do the following.

1.Google gun genie
2.search for your gun
3. Pick where you want to pick it up
4.??????
5. Profit

Do you have anything particular in mind besides caliber? Price range? Manufacturer? Revolver? Semi-auto?

If they suck as much as people say they do here(I have not idea-never been) then how do they survive? Someone has to be making money, no?

Go to a gun range that rents and shoot a few different models. Plan on spending around $100 for rentals and ammo.

If you want a good bang for the buck CZ clone 9mm take a look at the TriStar pistols. They sell them at your academy.

There are still a lot of really dumb people in the world, and then a few that just don't know better.

Impulse buyers, people who don't want the hassle of shopping around and the un-informed.

ETA: Sometimes you can find a nice used gun for a good deal or something you don't see everyday, but it is still nothing like it use to be.

Gun shows are rip offs nowadays. Order online for the lowest prices or go to Academy

A large portion of the gun community is stuck in the olden days where gun shows where the place to go to buy guns.

Go to firearms store and get a feel for which gun you want.
Go online to buds gun shop, kygunco, cdnn sports, palmetto state armory, gt distributors, or any other website of that nature and find the best deal, have it shipped to an FFL that charges the least for a transfer.
