Invincible makes an awesome boat. It's like a SeaVee and Yellowfin made a baby.

Fished from one last summer and honestly wasn't crazy about the ride. I think it was OE though

Here is a build thread on a new Freeman 37. Watched the embedded video. The boat hits 56 with one engine up.

Specs on the Freeman 37VH. It is a 70+ mph boat that floats in less that 2 feet of water and weighs over 13,000 lbs.

It is supposed to be more efficient than a monohull, but not sure on exact numbers.

How a boat that big and expensive ever makes financial sense is beyond me. You could fish with the top guides in the world every time you had days off and still never pay that amount per year. Not to mention, AND CATCH FISH.

So you'd have to schedule a trip on all your days off way in advance and just hope there's no bad forecasts?

It's not like you're paying for the boat in one year.

Most of the folks that I know that own higher end center consoles paid cash for them. Their expense is relative to upkeep and fuel. Several have theirs listed within an LLC and write off a lot of the use as a business expense.

To me, it makes much more sense to have a $350K boat than it does a $350K sports car.

That said, owning $350K worth of quality land is even better.

I hear you, but everyone acts like they'd catch fish like the guides as long as they had a similar boat (which is almost never the case unless you didn't earn that money). The costs of rods being serviced and spooled, the gas, the transportation and handling damage, the emergency gear, the lodging on location...the expectations of your friends, on and on (the danger). Driving down and having other people deal with all of that stuff just seems a much easier life. Most of people I see with 29'+ foot boats aren't the ones that would get invited to go gun fish down otherwise. Hell, I know it looks cool and it's a great thing to own, I just think for most people with ample money getting guided offshore is the better idea.

I think a 24- 26' bay boat with the capabilities to snapper fish or hit the rigs is a better choice for most rich guys. A freaking Gause Built 26 would make for a helluva time away from shore.

For someone who makes between 3 to 8 offshore trips a year, chartering is the only option. Show up, drink, eat, fish, hangout, get off boat, have fish cut, put in cooler, go to bed. No headache.

And that costs around 6K for 8 trips a year out of venice, on average. Based on 4-5 guys on a boat.

I would have to second the Freeman Catamarans if money were no object. Their 33 is an absolute beast and can only imagine the 37 and 40

I tend to agree. If i were in the market i would seriously look at the Calcutta 26' cat. 3mpg with twin 90's. Looks to be a great coastal/offshore rig and is around $90k new.

Friend with a boat is a better option.

I'll probably go out 3-8 times this year, and it won't even be $1000

Gause makes an insane boat. The only problem that I have with using a large bay boat type vessel offshore is that if you lose an engine...you lose THE engine. I have been caught in storms in the past in which losing your only engine likely means you are dead.

Overall though, I totally agree with your analysis.

Edit: I have heard from a boat salesman that Pathfinder has toyed with the idea of either twin F-150s or F-200s on its 2600HPS. That would be the near perfect boat for fishing around the panhandle of Florida...fishing bays and the edge.
