If you caught what could be a world record marlin, would you keep or release?

I can't say what I'd do for sure in the heat of the moment, but I think I would have a hard time taking a beast like this out of the ocean.

Pictures, tag, release.

ETA: I can't even make myself keep a nice bull red, how am I going to keep a giant like that? It just makes you wonder, if you don't keep it, will the next person that catches it?

I've taken one out in St. Marten and one out in Venice. In both instances it was a pretty bad feeling.

Yeah, it'd probably die while I sat there for an hour taking pictures with every camera I could find on the boat.

If no immediate danger of him dying or being instantly eaten by sharks, then release absolutely.

If the fish's chances of survival are slim, then would I consider keeping him and bringing it to the docks.

But if I have a Japanese guy wanting to give me $100k+ for my fish, then all bets are off.

First of all.... WHAT A BEAST.

It would be a tough call, but I would have to let it live. I don't have any use for a 12 ft fish on my wall.

Is Marlin considered a good table fish? The tuna is going in the boat, the marlin can go in peace.

Anything over 1000 is acceptable to take. Pretty good chance they would die anyway after the fight.

You still could get a mount of the fish. And you bet your sweet arse that I would

Not the best, but most places that have huge fish tend to be poorer regions, so the locals would love to have it.

I'd take some pics, get some measurements, and let it go. I don't ever plan to go Marlin fishing though.

Actually a lot of fish mounts are just fiberglass replica's. They need the length and girth, and from there make your mount. That’s what I did with a tarpon I caught. Got it done in Key West and looks pretty real. Or as real as I needed it to be.

They're just so regal to me. Like watching them swim under water, so gracefully, its beautiful. I don't keep any over 30". The largest one I've ever caught weighed 25 lbs, give or take.

Let her go. Hell, we released every bass we caught this past weekend.

Yeah I may take a picture with a big bull red but if it is over 30" I'm releasing it

besides, you'd need a chainsaw to clean it and then start picking out the worms
