i second looking in ditches. found our dog in garden ditch she had back herself into a hole after being accidentally run over by the neighbor. wouldn't make a sound or let us know she was there.
not that this is the case at all, but at 12 something to consider if it helps for closure. i have heard that many dogs when they find that it is their time to go just walk off. kind of their way of protecting you from suffering (though it does seem the opposite not knowing what has happened to them)
sorry for your loss and prayers sent that you find your loved dog. they are family!

OP- Heads up man. If someone would have hit her you would likely be able to find some evidence of it close to home. Dogs are survivors, don't give up on looking for your pup.

I sincerely hope you find your dog. Have you considered that your dog might have run off to die? 12-13 years of age is old for a dog. My dog died last September and she appeared perfectly healthy until the day she died. We've also had other dogs that, as they were dying, tried to run off to be by themselves.
I hope it isn't the case, but have you considered your dog knowing it was dying and going off to die alone?
