Going to Toledo weekend after next with a group of friends to go fishing. I've never wet a hook in it but I've always wanted to go.

The extended forecast looks good so far. It should be sunny and hot for that weekend. We're staying on the Texas side close to the middle of the lake.

I'm not looking for info on spots, just an idea of what to throw and what presentation should work this time of year.

TIA

if you have never been or if your group has never been, just fish shallow hay grass early in the morning and late in the evening. Try some topwaters before the sun comes up and I would say punch some mats but you probably don't have the gear for that.

This time of the year I would recommend deep fishing with carolina rigs and jigging spoons and night fishing but since you guys seem new to the area I would avoid that. Finding fish deep is not that easy. And I would not navigate that place in the dark

its a big intimidating lake the first time out.

3 words..... Punch, punch, punch. You need to key in on shallow to mediocre ridges with grass flats on the surface. Hang on because they are ripping the soft plastics

We are going in 2 weeks to night fish for a few nights.
Went 3 weeks ago and killed them late afternoon on big purple worms fishing 10-15 feet.
We had 3 fish over 5 pounds in the first 20 casts. Biggest was 9.

This time of the year you can fish at night if you feel confident running the lake.

Right by the bridge they got grass beds and you can always pickup a few especially if you get a light rain with cloud cover, morning or evening.

I would try punching grass or working a big worm on the grass line similar to a baby Huey, zoom monster worm, or manns jelly worm 12".

I bought plenty of zoom monsters for the trip. Also got me plenty of frogs and one of those new topwater bream to try out. Got several extra deep crankbaits to run on the dropoffs.

We have a small lake around home that's grown up in grass that we've learned to punch in lately. Gonna see if we've learned anything I guess.

You should catch something.
Might stop buy Toldeo tackle and pay the $10 fee to walk in (just joking).
Pick up a few senkos in that green Christmas flake type color. If you cannot find any just pick them up at Toledo tackle in the choppers brand. I think that is the brand they sel with exclusive colors that do well on Toldeo bend. You can always scrape a few up on that.

There is a guy that use to live out there than ran a Gary yamoto store across the bridge near the hotel. I think if you called his house from the store he would open it up if it was closed. He always use to give good advice.

I think with what you got you should scrape something together and have fun fishing.
Good luck.

I'll be there week after next as well...we're in the same boat with not ever fishing there. I heard that early in the morning and late in the evening are good times. Mid day in summertime there isn't very good from what I hear....but I hope to rip a few lips. Good luck.
