I bought a great Igloo backpack cooler

I bought an igloo welded backpack cooler. And I tried it out on the lake last weekend.
It's basically a cooler that works like a drybag. This thing is incredible. Very thick insulation, and it kept ice for almost a couple days, even while opening it regularly.
And it wasn't sitting on a boat the whole time. We were swimming and floating more than anything. While swimming between rafts, it floated.
It's made with raft material. We were pretty hammered, and it proved to be tough as hell. It's obviously very well made.
The zipper pouch on the front is even water resistant. It's not perfect. But having a couple dozen drunk people splashing it, it did much better than I expected. It kept my smokables and lighter dry, until wet hands when into it too many times.
They were selling them at Sam's for about $80. But at the time, I had another soft pack. Once I decided to upgrade, I found this one online for $60.
But Igloo has discontinued it (they don't even show it on their website), in favor of a very expensive redesign.
They basically improved the appearance to a less rugged look. They added a drain plug, and made it 4 quarts larger, a mesh front pouch, and a bottle opener. But they now charge $180 for it instead of $80. I don't see any improvement that makes it worth double the price.
If you're looking for a rugged soft cooler (I specifically wanted a cooler backpack, especially for festivals), this thing is fantastic. Plus, it's still a drybag. So even if you have everything you need in a hard Cooler, this will still be useful on a river or lake trip.
The only thing I don't like, is that the clips for the dry bag are on the sides. It would be easier if one side has a female clip, so you could clip it at the top, like a regular drybag. But the new $180 version is The same way. It still works great, but gets annoying after a few beers. I may try to find a double female clip, and fix it myself.
There's still plenty online from $50-120 (eBay and Amazon have great prices on them). If you're in the market, you really can't go wrong with this cooler.

Polar bear knockoff.
ETA: without polar bear customer service. My polar bear backpack had a small leak after almost 2 years and they replaced it, no questions asked. It was also $80 on Amazon.

Looks like it has potential as a kayak fish (crappie) bag, which I'm looking for.
Thanks for posting.

I looked up the polar bear, and that looks pretty cool too. Though the cheapest I could find on Amazon was $110 for one that's a backpack. But I can't tell if the polar bear rolls up like a drybag. Like this:
I see some kind of zipper. If it's like a Yeti bag zipper, that would probably work and be leakproof. But if it's like the Ozark Trail soft pack knockoff, it might leak on your back. It's hard to see a good photo.
But I'm not sure the updated Igloo version is worth $180. If this one ever breaks, I may look at a polar bear. But for $60-80 (I've seen them for $50-55 on eBay after I ordered mine), this thing is very tough. I know it'll get a lot of good use on paddling and camping trips. It's definitely made for outdoors activities.

bear proof?
Yeah, it's dead guy proof. But if he was alive, I guess it would depend on how drunk he was.

Stupid question....but here it goes
What are the nylon loops on the cooler for? Is it strictly for tying it down? I have the RTIC and it has these loops ont he front and back but i didn't know what they were for?

That's a better pic of it, now I see the dry bag comparison. I wonder why it didn't get popular?

Yep. After rolling it, you clip it on the sides to keep it closed. It's basically an insulated drybag with backpack straps.
It seems like you could get a clip, so that you could kick lock it without dealing with the side clips. But it's not too inconvenient. Just a little extra bending over.

Can those hold 5 18-22" redfish nose down with some ice?

They clearanced those out at my local Sams Club about a month ago. $29.88 is what I paid.

I have an ice mule, which is basically a start-up brand of the same thing. $100 on amazon and works great. Best device ever for mobile drunkenness at football games.
