Suppose your father had a C&R which was obtained through legal means many years ago.
Pops passes away, now mom is gone and you can't find/have no documentation.
Is it possible to have it transferred at this point?

I thought a C&R was easy to get, what are you trying to do or why do you think you need it?

I think thatutopiau think that someone did something wrong and it might get you in trouble. I think that is highly unlikely, just give us the story...

Don't use that... C&R is not the problem, that is a class 3 gun, you need to find out if it was set up in a trust or not...

Do you know if the gun is a registered and transferable gun with the ATF?

If it is not you could have problems...

I know that he was fingerprinted at the time.
My concern with contacting ATF is that at that point the genie will be out of the bottle

I am assuming the gun is stored in a safe? If there were fingerprints there was a class 3 stamp. There is paperwork somewhere, you need to find that. If the gun was set up under a trust it is most likely that another ATF background check will not be needed. If he got it without a trust I think one will be needed and the gun might need to be held by someone else. A lawyer also might be needed in this...
