Hunting over corn or other bait; where’s the satisfaction?

I just don’t get the thrill of killing an animal over bait.

Sitting in a shooting house overlooking a corn feeder isn’t hunting, baws.

There's no thrill but the meat still fills the freezer and the license fees/pitmann/Robertson tax revenue is real.

You're not gonna learn to hunt by doing it but if it is legal I have no issue with it. To each their own. I shot a doe out of a box yesterday in the rain.

What if you shoot a deer before it gets to the corn?

Turn feeders off and hunt acorn flats and food plots? You won’t hold deer effectively without food if everyone around you is doing it.

Meh, I went from years of public land, climbers, lock ons, death traps welded in shop class, etc to our own place with 3 kids and box stands with feeders.

It’s def different but each is great. I’ll go out west archery “hunting” to scratch that itch but also sit in a blind with heater and field pod with my little ones.

I’ve found the key to happiness is finding contentment in whatever the situation

I hunt on a 2000 acre lease with 25 members. We each get 3 stand locations. I can't go climb a tree wherever I want.

We feed corn and sometimes we don't. The hogs will tear up any corn on the ground. I've killed deer eating corn and killed deer with no corn on the ground. Got to get the does around some kind of way to get the bigger bucks moving.

We are 6pt or better and only allowed one doe each. If you shoot an 8pt you can't kill a 6pt anymore. It's worked well so far.

I don't hunt public land. Not enough time for scouting and my luck I'll have 10 guys next to me when daylight hits.

Might not be called hunting with bait around but Im limited on hunting time.

To each his own, it’s all personal preference.

Otherwise this argument goes corn or no corn to rifle or bow, to compound or traditional.

I get your point. I hate baiting deer, but I do it early in the year when I'm grocery shopping. I make no claims to be doing anything more than grocery shopping.

I do wish everyone would quit baiting and quit putting out cameras. Both of those things take a whole lot of fun out of hunting for me.

I still put in a shite load of time to kill big deer over corn and I’ve been pretty decent at it over the years.

Do you hunt with a gun? How about a compound bow?

Why not use a spear or an atlatl?

Ok, I don’t particularly care if you shoot em w a long bow on foot or w a .300 mag out of an air conditioned blind. But I am glad you got that out.

Doesn’t make a difference to me. I can kill one eating under a feeder or drive around and kill one standing in the pasture. Either way is easy.

Do you feel the same way about hunting over an acorn tree? Because it’s basically the same. They are coming to a known food source

I saw 25 bucks this weekend and close to 30 or so does at my feeder.Didn’t shoot any . Had the most fun rattling and having bucks come to it. It’s a different hunt here in Texas than hunting the sloughs and ridges along the river. We’ can harvest 10 deer but usually get 5 . That’ll fill the freezers along with the pork loins and roast. By the time you pay for a lease, feeder, corn, camper, food etc . You want to come home with something. I let my son do the shooting anyway.

Bringing my daughter on 4 day hunt Thursday. Really don’t care to shoot one at this point. But if right one steps out I’m going to send round down range.

It's an animal that we are allowed to hunt to control the population.

Doesn't matter how you do it as long as it's legal.

I understand where you are coming from,I used to really scout, find a good looking spot and climb a tree.I got more satisfaction from killing a deer that way.But then I got old and lazy, now it’s box stands or a ladder ( if it isn’t too cold).I think the modern style of hunting came about from the proliferation of hunting clubs where each member gets a certain number of designated spots. If everybody else is putting out corn you have to do it also. It’s still not particularly easy to kill a nice buck, they don’t come out and eat corn in the daytime(at least where I’ve hunted)Rather, they are attracted to the does that hang around the feeders and lurk around the edges.
Box stands and feeders aren’t going away so the best thing is don’t worry about what others do.You do it your way and let others do it their way.
