Most of my property was cut earlier this year and the land owner wants to burn right now. He showed up yesterday and we talked him out of it. He and his son tried convincing us that deer love fire because they are very curious. If I learned anything from Bambie its that deer do not like fire . Also, if he burns this grass, they will have absolutely no cover at all.

What is your experience with this? Should I welcome this burn with open arms?

Never heard that nonsense before. Me thinks you did right by talking him out of it. At least that's what I woulda did.

Ask him to burn after the season, it will really help it. The greenery, briars, etc. will shoot up and the deer love a chearcut,,AFTER a burn...

The deer will move out of the area but within a week they will be back in there grazing on all the fresh green that pops up out of the ground from after a fire.

As stated, after the burn when everything starts sprouting out again it will be money. I dont think I've got big enough nuts to hunt it while its burning though.

I used to love burning the marsh. I kept a roll of paper towels and a lighter in my mud boat for that purpose. We definitely had some pyros at our old camp.

all you needed was a match, that piefin burns faster than gasoline

I remember when I was younger and we were hunting Des Allamends we saw a fire off in the distance West of us. It was far, this was about 3:00. By 4-4:30 we were in the mud boat hauling arse outta there

Let him burn now. The deer can't resist the new green growth. I have seen them eating one area while 100yards away it is still smoking.

It's better to burn in the late winter, early spring when wind and humidity factors are more favorable. Sounds like your landowners should contact a reputable forester for some professional advice.

WTF

If he could have done before season it would be ok but now I think your season would be screwed.

x one million. We paid 10-grand to have our property sprayed last year and you cannot even tell. However, we had replanted and had young trees, so burning was not an option.
