Hunting a flooded running trail... Veteran duck hunters, what would you do?

Got wind of a nearby public lake where I've heard folks have been bagging lots of birds the past week or two. I scouted the lake and it appears as though I've found a good ambush spot. Problem is luring them out. The ducks I saw swimming around were black, Scaup I think but not 100% since it was late evening and didn't want to get too close.
It's a flooded out running trail and it appears as though the ducks are having a field day. I've got 12 decoys. What would you do, and what time of day would you do it?
and I don't have a boat.

Put the decoys out early in the morning and just see what happens. Hide well.

thanks, will do... gonna try to get out by 6. I can hide pretty well on one of the dry trails leading smack in the middle of the complex. I'm afraid that might be their roost, though.

how big is your spread?

Could be a rest/refuge spot too, might be hopping later in the morning.
Hell of a pipe, I can already see woodies screaming through it.
Good Luck

I would be set up and ready by 6 so if some fly by early they won't see you messing around in the middle with a light on. A big thing with duck hunting is scouting and you found them so you have won the biggest battle.

5 dozen to 10 dozen depending on where I am hunting and on Catahula lake we used 20 dozen last year
