He WILL piss in the kennel everyday. Just clean it and him up and try not to get to pissed about the situation. In a week or two, he will get the idea and be able to hold it.
Mine would piss himself everyday before lunch. When I got home, I had to clean him, the kennel, grab a bite then haul arse back to work. It sucked big time but its worth it in the end.
ETA: get plenty of paper towels to clean out kennel and some Clorox wipes. they worked wonders for me at killing the urine smell.

this is essentially what will happen
i have been trying this with my varmint/bait trap dog for a month and she still keeps pissing in her kennel

I would like to have a larger fence kennel when he gets a little older. Something like a 5X10 in my backyard where he can hang out while I'm gone.

my buddy has a area fenced off at his place that is basically a shed with a 1.5 acre fenced in area around it for his dogs when he is at work, it is pretty boss
he was talking about putting some misting fans for the summer time in the shed, which I would imagine would probably be necessary for the summer time on northshore

I've had two pups never piss their crate. At night, I would let them sleep either with me, or near me, and run out the door to grass a couple times per night.

I was told not to let them run around the yard all day because they'll go crazy and start to destroy the yard. Some time of smaller fenced kennel or area will give them a "den" to relax in which is what they do naturally as a dog.
Alx, sounds good. Going home for lunch will be my game plan for now. If I need more help to cover me, I'll seek it out.

Not in all cases, but most dogs do what dogs do, especially the sporting breeds.

Bourg, that's gauges kennel in my back yard I built. It's 12x12. 8x8 concrete pad and rest is gravel for easy poop pickup. Used a tarp for the roof and had an old dog house from last dog for him. Also in summe he had a fan to keep him cool. He runs around in back yard when it's dry and we are home

I got a 9 week old lab. I luckily got her at 5.5 weeks during the holidays and it made it a little easier. I leave her out in the back yard during the day and she is fine. Just puppy proof the yard, make sure the pup can't get out. The worst she does is run behind the bushes and is starting to dig a little.
At night she sleeps in my room and wakes up to go outside once a night. Can't wait till she can hold it all night

Love you brah, but I think that you made a bad decision to get a dog you can't take care of. I want a dog too, but I'm not getting one because me and wife work all day and can't raise it the way we want. And I live 4 minutes from work.

Only enough room in the kennel to turn around and lay down - if he can make a mess in his kennel and get away from it he will.

You think no dog owners work for a living? I'm talking about 4-8 weeks max of ownership over a period of 12+ years. If you and your wife can't try to make time like I am willing to do, then you're both clearly not ready for a dog. You're situation is completely irrelevant to mine
