Long story short, I was gifted a bow and I want to use it for bowfishing in the kayak. Problem is, it's currently at 60# and I read that the ideal weight for bowfishing is around 30#. Is this something I can do by myself?

Note: I don't know jack about bows.

TIA

Highly doubt you can go from 60 to 30, but you can adjust most with a screw that is where the frame meets the arms

The bow may not go down that far, but the allen screws holding the limbs to the riser should be loosened the same amount. A bow shop will do it and help you set it up for $10-25, if they charge you at all.

fwiw, if you don't know anything about a bow, just don't mess with it yourself or you may frick yourself up pretty badly...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I was just asking on the off chance it was really easy.

I'll probably take it to Bowies this week. Don't want this thing to blow up in my face.

Thanks.

What type of bow is it? Most bows can be safely decreased 2 rounds per limb. This will only decrease draw weight around 10lbs. You can usually pick up low weight limbs for cheap that you can just transplant your cams and/or roller to.

I wouldn't do it yourself. I would definitely take it somewhere. I have a pse xforce and it's pretty simple to adjust and I still take it to get adjusted if I want it adjusted. Most places have a scale as well to see how much it's pulling back. It may not go down to 30, it may have a 50-70# range.
