Sounds about right for me too (far as the age). That was over 30 years ago and I still have that gun.

Any survivors within a 300 yard distance?

5 years old with a rifle simply sounds stupid...even if we were posting on the OT board.

I got a .22 at 8, is that stupid???

As long as the child is properly supervised, my son will have a gun before he can walk, he just won't know it yet

stank dog was obviously not raised in the country. I had a single shot .410 and .22 when i was 4-5. No, they weren't available to me when my dad wasn't around, but by the time i was 8 i was taking guns out by myself.

The earlier the better. I wasnt allowed to shoot a pellet gun without supervision until i was 10ish.

You never have to worry about the kid who grows up with guns. You have to worry about the one thats never touched one.

pretty close here as well... i think i was about 6 when i moved up from a bb gun to a pellet gun and my new pellet gun wouldn't work and my father and i went into town to exchange it and came home with a bolt action 410...i was in "high cotton"..

Shot my dad's old Remington pump 22 since I was old enough to remember.

But he bought me my official first gun at 11. It was a Remington 3" 12 ga. Wingmaster. It was a rite of passage at our house, that on your 11th b-day you had tp shoot a 3" buckshot to prove you were man enough to own a gun.

Damn, that shite hurt my shoulder. I look at 11 year olds today and wonder what the hell my old man was thinking.
