I'm just messing with you but I'll admit I'm a little jealous. Wish I had a the boat to justify that 300 Yammy.

I bet the manufacturer makes 50% profit on an outboar

probably. but i would think the market would be big enough that someone would swoop in and take 30%.

If i only knew how to build outboards.

Yeah but comparing it to a car isn't apples to apples exactly, An outboard is more than just a motor, you have the lower unit cost etc. It's really a car engine plus a transmission. That said the outboard still comes out to be more expensive.

4-strokes these days $$$$

MSRP on my 2016 Yamaha F60 was like 9K, paid under 7. In 2001 I bought a 2-stroke Yammy 40.....$3K

Just picked up the boat last Saturday after installing a new F300, controls and gauges. We lost the number 1 cylinder on the 250 HPDI and decided to just repower to the tune of $26,600 out the door but that new Yammie sure is sweet!

10k is a hell of deal for a 150, I'd jump on that deal if I were you. Not many places will match much less beat Jacos pricing here:

It's called a " general rule". Not a scientific law.

Shelby Shores Marine in B'Ham did it, they matched the quote we got from Legendary Marine in Gulf Shores on a 300 Suzuki. If the Suzuki would have saved us a couple thousand dollars we would have gone that route, but when he matched the price on a Yamaha with new gauges and controls it was a no brainer. I was not impressed with their rigging job but he did keep his word on the price.
