Lost a doe Saturday night. Shot her right at sundown. Only about 40 yds so at least I know I got a good shot and she's not suffering. It just always kills me. I hate to see an animal and all that meat go to waste.

Luckily I haven't lost a buck yet.

Not sure of the number but last year I shout a cull buck running straight at me with a 30-06 at 15 steps, he hit the ground like a brick. I look back over a few minutes later and he's gone, blood everywhere but no trail.

We never did find him

Shot the stomach out of a doe at 30yrd with a slug. Chip shot but my face mask obscured my vision when I looked down the barrel. Shouldn't of taken that shot. Worst part was I didn't look for her really at all. Everywhere around was cutover too thick to walk in so there wasn't anything I could do but feel shitty.

Son dropped a doe in the plot and she laid there for over a minute while we were celebrating. Then she got up and limped off. We waited a bit and we went to track her. Good blood trail went on for about 50 yards then went cold. We spent 2-3 hours looking but just couldn't find her anywhere. We were all pretty upset.

Fast forward a few weeks later and I see a doe feeding with another doe and she turns sideways to me and I'll be damned if she didn't have a huge hole - about 5 inches diameter in her side right above the kill zone and below her spine! It was healing nicely! She acted like she didn't have a care in the world! Crazy

I haven't lost a deer yet, but thats not saying that I'll never lose one. I dont know if its just the emergence of facebook or what, but i've seen more people begging for dogs to track a deer down that ever before. Not saying you made a bad shot, but there are some no shooting Rambo's on facebook. They must be taking shots out their arse.

Hate that you lost yours, it happens to the best of em.

I'm 99% sure it was a lethal shot. I shot and she jumped straight up and then took off into the woods. In my experience, you only get that jump with a good heart/lung shot.

With no blood trail, darkness, and rain it was a fools errand looking for her. We were out there a few hours though.

Guy on my lease lost 2 nice bucks this year. One hit the ground for 10 minutes then got up. No blood. The other tracked wt dog and no recovery. He gave up for the year bc he was sick to his stomach and lost a bunch of sleep. Really dont blame him tho. Hes an ethical hunter and sometimes shite happens. I made a terrible shot on a buck wt my bow 2 years ago. Good blood but never could find him. 3 weeks later another member shot him. They are tuff sob's.

One deer that i can recall.

My first one i stuck with a bow. I was using some of the first mechanical broadheads and got horrible penetration. I knew it as soon as it hit.

I found plenty of blood, half of the arrow, and no deer. Still feel bad about it TBH.

i did miss a very nice buck at about 120 yards one time, found a few drops of blood, but nothing past there. We looked for that deer for days it felt like.

But i ended up killing him the next year.

Shot an 8pt w/ my bow this season. Got 1 lung and nothing else. Trailed for 1000 yards and the trail went dry

2. One I didn't wait long enough and pushed her and couldn't find the trail again. The other was on a high fence place, we checked all the corners, never could find him. Company paid for the deer, I go back the next year and someone else paid to shoot it that year. I got no refund or upgrade.

My dad taught me to shoot it again once it's down. Never heard of anyone saying this, but haven't lost one, yet.
