I think that's great advice too. IMO learning about dog psychology is the most important part of learning how to effectively train a dog. You've got to learn how they think and why they think the way they do before you can attempt to control it. Finished Dog touches a lot of psychology. I'll check out both of those books you mentioned too.

Tell him to quit running a puppy mill and do some of the minimal health testing for breeding retrievers. OFA Hips, OFA Elbows, and Eyes. Not a single dog on his website is health tested with available info on OFA. That's the bare minimum that responsible breeders participate in and update. It's less than $500 for per dog and 1 hour at the vet. If you can't do that but want to have a flashy website than you're not a breeder, you're a puppy mill.
