Slugs in the gun and #2 shot in your pocket.

I've done some rabbit hunting with dogs in my life with 00 buckshot in my gun and rabbit shot in my pocket if you know what I mean.

#2 lead with a full choke at close enough distance can be effective if its not too big of a hog

This changes things. Didn't know a shotgun was allowed. I have killed many hogs at 20 yards with #2 2 3/4 steel shot and a M choke. #2 lead in a 3" shell and a full choke should give more range. And it will give faster follow up shots than a bolt action 22

I didn't see no hawgs.

It took me a little longer to get there than I expected, and it got light a little sooner than I thought it would, so I was running just a little later than I'd have preferred. I watched another truck, coming from the opposite direction, pull into the spot I was planning to hunt, just barely before I could get there. That's the only area that I've ever scouted for hogs. I had to just drive down the road and go in blind. Turned out to be not a great area, but it was nice to spend the morning in the woods. On the way out, there was a squirrel that wouldn't let me pass him up, so I popped him. And of course didn't see another all the way back to the truck.

BUT, I also brought my hawk, and I spent the afternoon flying her. So, all in all, it was a good day, even without any hogs.

And thanks for all the help, and info.
