any experience with the corral-type pins that don't use a "door"?

When we've had to make traps with only posts and panels, this is how we did it. Leave one panel of the corral straight, and bend the last panel around the last post and let it "spring" back into panel 1 (arrow). Bait around and into this funnel. They push their way in and can't escape. If last panel loses spring action, use bungee cord near top of the panel.

I did not put that in the trap thread but, add a few extra T post where the two panels come together in the above picture on the outside of the trap.

also you can use a stick to hold the panels apart at that spot with a trip trigger similar to the ones in my thread.

Believe it or not I am not done with that thread. I was experiencing technical difficulties and time constraints I was actually planning on updating it this evening.

bp, the pic in the post above yours is what i'm seriously leaning towards building. a few questions:
add xtra T posts where the two panels come together (on the outside) for strength aginst po'ed pigs trying to get out?

why the need to use a stick or something else to hold the panes apart at that spot? won't they just push thru?

yes, it keeps the straight panel from flexing letting the spring panel bend past it and open.

yes and no. large pigs will push in but trap shy hogs and smaller hogs will not push in. They need to know they can come and go. I usually bait the traps for a week before setting them to catch. Some people prefer to build a heart shaped trap with both of the panels acting as spring doors at the top of the heart. This design works better with the stick trigger IME

Yes, the figure 6 style traps are easy to make. Like in picture above or as seen here: hog trap from panels
