Hand a crank a Sword, Warsaw, or Tilefish from 1000'+ and then tell me using an electric isn't real fishing. It's not as easy as just saying oh let's drop right here. There's more technique involved than catching snapper off an oil platform.

I thought the same thing until we started deep dropping 600' and catching 3# wenchmen. You will get on board with a quickness when you have to reel that much line in just to check if your bait is still on the hook.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. As others have stated, it's pretty difficult to hand reel a 150# grouper up from 500'. It's a rush not knowing what you're going to pull up next.

They're for pulling squid chains/teaser baits and dredges on the outriggers while trolling and are absolutely essential if you're planning on tournament billfishing. You can set them to drop back a specific length of line and retrieve it at the push of a button which saves crucial time when a fish shows up in the spread. I doubt the guy will be using them to yank up amberjack

Those 130 rod butts are hideous.

Was thinking the same thing until I saw someone mention on the reddit thread that they can be adjusted from bent-butt to straight-butt on the fly. Not sure if the design is an integral part of the functionality of the rods or not, but it's a pretty cool to be able to switch from one style to the other on the same rod.
