Mine is the 1895G "Guide Gun" which is shorter and lighter than the other 1895s. I think the lighter weight causes it to have even more recoil than their other 1895 models.
I may look into that Limbsaver, but the ammo is so expensive that I probably don't shoot it enough to warrant it.

I have the itch too, but I'm leaning to the Winchester.
My neighborhood store has it for a couple hundred under msrp.
Main reason is side loading and 8 round magazine instead of 4 on the Henry.
(but the brass Henry sure is pretty...and I love the company)

I have the Winchester and it is my favorite rifle. It does have a kick but nothing you couldn't handle. Buy that bad boy either Win or Henry as is your preference. You won't be sorry either way.

That kick thing is overstated... I'v shot a 45-70 a few times and it is nowhere near as bad as my 870 wingmaster 12ga.

45-70 ammo varies widely.
Loads that are safe in a trapdoor Springfields aren't gonna kick too much.
I haven't shot any Buffalo Bore ammo but I imagine they will rock you.

I have a lever henry in 45 colt pistol, it is by far my favorite to shoot. No recoil there though
45-70 is a mans round with a long history of killing shite. You should get it

Feh. 45-70 is tame no matter what. Now .500 Nitro Express in an Encore? That'll wake you up.

I'm getting it. Stopped by my local dealer yesterday.
I just need to figure a way to hide it from Mrs. TrueTiger.
I may have to use the same trick that she pulls with me. Whenever I see what I think is a new pair of shoes, she always claims she's had them for a long time.

Unless you're shooting some hot CorBon load they don't kick at all. Long burning powder and low presure round. I've shoot lots of 45-70 out of a Magnum BFR handgun. No problem very accurate load as well.
