Trying to figure out what my fees will be to register a boat I bought last week.

Its never been registered in Louisiana and it's a 20' Regency pontoon boat. I bought it from an individual and not a dealer.

The fees at the bottom of the La W&F application is confusing me

Any help would be appreciated.

I bought a tri-toon out of state last year from an individual. had to show proof that no taxes were owed before DW&F would issues LA registration. had to go to local school board office with bill of sale, so they could sign off first before I could submit for my LA numbers.

I just did this last year, its not bad if you get it all done. after the tax forms have been stamped and filled out take bill of sale and old registration and tax forms and they will get you your numbers.

laws just changed that all boat sales needs taxes to be paid.

Once you have proof that you paid state and parish taxes you can submit the registration information. You will also need to send proof of purchase (bill of sale) if its never been registered. I just looked at the boat length and used that value and sent a check.

The trailer is a little different . If its never been registered you will need to bring it get inspected first and then basically the same process

Crap!!!
I forgot about the whole trailer inspection thing.

So what is the process?
Get trailer inspected first?
Pay La Boat Tax first?
Register with W&F?

I haven't bought a boat in so long I don't even know how to do it now.

Totally forgot that a friend of the family is a W&F agent.

Just called him and was told that the Boat Registration form, title signed over to me and the tax form along with $63 needs to filled out and mailed to them first.

Seems easy enough I guess.

What is the normally the waiting period for your numbers to come in?

going through this process myself in Arkansas.... boat registration was pretty standard, bill of sale, proof of tax assessment.....
trailer is another animal entirely.... there is no title law on trailers in Alabama where I bought it... and therefore registration is not required. Arkansas doesn't title the boat, but they do the trailer.... and I currently have no paperwork that they will accept to title it.
boat is registered and good to go, trailer.... I have no idea what I'm going to do at this point.

If I have to pay sales tax twice on my hull I'm just not going to register it. frick that noise. I wonder how many citations for no numbers I could get before it adds up to the amount of taxes due.
