I just found out a family member had my dads jump boots from WW2. He wanted me to have them after he passed being I was a 2nd generation paratrooper. The boots were in a garage at a house east of Range in Denham Springs. I know they will be in bad shape but I have to make the effort to salvage them. What do I need to do when I get them home?

I'd find a cobbler or someone that could work to preserve/restore them

The key with leather is clean, dry, but not too dry. I'm inclined to the suggestion to take them somewhere. Before you start putting products on there, you kind of need to know what it can tolerate. With boots that old, there's no telling. I think mink oil and saddle soap will be okay, but I've only worked on boots from the 80s forward.

Good luck.

I would grab them up and take them to the shoe shine guys at Millitelos on Corporate. The old guy brought back a pair of full quill ostrich I accidentally left in a storage locker for two years. They look new now.

man, that is cool as hell. I would probably bring them to some kind of leather restorer who specializes in such things.
