I think i probably posted this exact thread last year at this time, but im actually going to bite the bullet this time. Looking for a zero turn for my 2 acre lot.

I'm willing to spend ~$3500 MAYBE up to $4k if it's worth the difference. Wanting about a 50-54".

Been looking at Hustler Raptor Limited (upgraded seat, tires, and engine block) $3399 with a Kohler 7000 engine

and Ariens Ikon X $3599 with the kohler OR $3799 with a Briggs Cyclonic

Thoughts about these two or any other options around this price point? A comfy seat and fab deck are my only 'must haves'.

How often are you cutting?

If weekly, I'd bump up to the commercial grade mowers.

I'm guessing the Zee 2 is the base Dixie Chopper?

Is the Kohler 7000 any good? Or is worth finding one with a Kawasaki?

You can buy a commercial grade for a bit more, or look for a gently used one. Would not buy a residential for 2 acres.

I have a 48 inch badboy that I cut 2-3 acres with twice weekly during mowing season.

It only has the vtwin briggs, but has never let me down. In the past five years, I have only changed belts, fluids, filters, and blades.

Running an oversized oil filter and synthetic 0w40 or 0w30, I get two years on an oil change too. 3 years on drive belt, one year on blades and belly belt.

ETA: we have a tigercub that we cut a similar sized area with. It can cut a lot faster, but runs through plugs and belts more.

I also have the Gravely, for 8 years now. I have replaced one deck spindle and 2 belts in that time. Great mower. FYI always buy the gator blades. they last the longest and are just the best

So I don't have to just start my own thread, I've never owned a riding mower before. So, I too would love some opinions.

I have a lot about an acre in size front/back yard. Looking to spend about 2k, which this one falls right at that tag.

husqvarna yth24v48

Briggs motor... I know that's entry level motor, but has a hell of a warranty. What better could I do for a $2k price tag?

Don't buy the Ariens. Go to a local Gravely dealer and buy the XL series. It is basically the same mower (Ariens is the parent company to Gravely), but with a few upgraded parts.
Fair warning, it may cost a couple hundred more than the Ariens. They sell the Ariens line north of the Mason-Dixon line and in the big box stores as a price point mower. The main problem is that you will have to rely upon gravely dealers for any service needs you may have and many dealers refuse to work on the Ariens line.

If you do bump your price range I would look at the Ferris mowers. They are a just a tad higher than the low end commercials but they have most of the benefits of the upper range commercials. (3400 pumps, 10mph speed, etc)

Anything sold at Lowes/Home Depot are made by MTD. I would go to a dealer and you will find a slightly better model for about $500 more.

The guy at lowe's told me this very thing, and that it was especially true with john deere's lowe's models. but that i'd have to pay to customize the kohler motors installed etc. but i guesstimated that that's the difference between commercial grade and standard grade for a normal yard. do you suggest that going commercial is the ONLY reasonable choice? i'm listening, for sure.
