Going for work, but going to get 2-3 hiking days in. Staying in Estes Park. Chasm Lake is already on the agenda based on prior recommendations. Any other must do trails? TIA

Oh man! Do Estes Cone. We did it in late May and still had a ton of snow but it should be gone by now.

As you might expect, the Estes Cone Trail becomes quite steep, gaining almost 800 feet in just two-thirds of a mile

Nice. Does it get crowded at the summit?

I think there were maybe 5 or 6 people at the summit when we went up

The last little bit was kinda tough. Nothing we couldn't handle. But it was my first exposure to calf deep snow

If you want to avoid crowds Mt. Ida is a good one; Mt. Ypsilon is another. They both get pretty high but start just below timberline so they aren't terribly hard. But I wouldn't do them right off the bat, your body will be adjusting to the altitude and that takes a few days.

Black Lake is a nice hike, the Odessa Lake - Fern Lake hike is a good one too. For that start at Bear Lake and hike to Odessa. Have somebody hike back to the car and meet you at the Fern Lake trailhead. Black Lake will be somewhat crowded, Odessa-Fern much less so.

Head up to steamboat....there are a good number of trails in the irked wilderness area. Fly fishing in that area is just great and it is all within a few miles of downtown steamboat.

Tarmagan Peak is a cool hike but one of the 14-ers. trail starts at frisco and has an awsome view at the end. managable elevation change but long total distance. it took me about 6-7 hrs. from the peak you can see rocky mt national park, 10-mile range, and the colegiates.
