Louisiana's concealed handgun law could come under Attorney General Buddy Caldwell's scrutiny, after a bill filed during this legislative session raised questions over how the gun statute is being enforced. For the past 17 years, pro-gun lobbyists and many concealed handgun permit instructors have taught permit holders they may carry pistols at parades and in restaurants that sell alcohol. But law enforcement officials in New Orleans and Baton Rouge disagree.

Parades are a Grey area. Bars are not

I have heard some on here say that bars are a no but restaurants were OK. I guess we'll know for sure when the AG rules.

Everything with the law is a grey area. If you go to a bar as a patron you absolutely can't carry but if you are a manager or owner that makes bank deposits you can have a gun at your place of business. That law doesn't disclude bars. Also, if you can carry legally there and you have your concealed carry permit then its my understanding that you can carry concealed.

the general rule for law enforcement is to interpret the law based on the more restrictive statute.

I was told you can't sit at or in the designeted bar area of a restaurant but the rest of the tables are fine.

If a restaurant has a bar, you can carry at the restaurant part but not at the bar part. There is usually a clearly designated area.

This is what I was always told, but that is not what they are saying here.

I was told it changed last fall, and the new law allows you to carry in a resturant that serves.

Yes, my FIL took a class in the last 2 months. He was told that laws had changed in DC and it was ok. I said no, and a good way to end up in jail...

That's because law enforcement officials in Baton Rouge and New Orleans want the law to say something it doesn't say.

This is absolutely retarded. In what way does it make sense to say that your rights end when you walk into a Chili's and have a meal with your family or attend Thoth on a Sunday afternoon?

I've also been told that you can not carry at events that require a permit. I'm guessing this included parades

Can you CC or Open Carry in a store and buy alcohol such as a case of beer or a bottle of whiskey? Not opened. Can you grocery shop and have those items along with other everyday items?
