If it’s stupid, I apologize.

I picked up several acorns and some elm seeds last week when I was in DC. Some from the Capital, White House grounds, and Arlington.

Almost all of the ones I picked up at Arlington are trying to sprout already. I just put them in some dirt.

The question is, will they be ok outside or would they be better off inside?

Like any other seed, start them in a cup or something.

Once they 4-6 " move to a bigger pot. Inside would be best with winter coming

Very good chance to make it. Once up out the ground, cover them in leaves to help protect them.

In nature, they would have had a chance to grow all summer. Since yours are newly sprouted, I'd probably put them inside for the winter and then transplant them in the spring.

Inside, at a north facing window.
