Moved into a new home and had to replace the front shingles of our roof to a flat rolled roofing. So when it's time to hang lights, if I didn't have to I wouldn't, what's your suggestion on how to hang them. I can't really find options that don't involve either shingles or gutters.

A coworker suggested just installing teacup hooks along the front of the house and hanging them on that. Any other suggestions?

Im not sure why flat rolled would make a difference. On regular shingle roof I just use plastic hangers for Christmas lights from any store. They generally last 2 seasons. When multiple hangers are put close together it will allow the strand to be pulled taught like at the ends of the strands.

I buy Christmas lights on the roll and save the roll. At the end of the season I roll lights and plastic hangers on the roll (in reverse). The first year it took me about 3 hours to get hangers figured out but now it takes me an hour to string the entire house including bushes.

Eta: these are similar to what I use, you can orient them many ways for different size lights. You can get a box of 100 for like $10 at Walmart

What is the fascia made of? Wood? Metal? If wood just staple them in

I used some little 3m hooks that stuck to the fascia

It was easy to install and the lights were easy to remove. The clips are still up there, at least most of them

I have nails around my house. They are about 4 inches long, maybe, and come out about 2 inches. They are angled slightly up and can't be seen from the house. It takes less than 10 minutes to hang lights around the front of the house and when it is time to take down I pull the first couple sections off(about 4 feet apart) and then from the ground give a nice wavy tug and they all come off about 3-4 sections at a time.

The nails have no head on them.

I bought some cheap clips from Walmart last year that were somewhat universal. Could be used to slide under a shingle, clip to a gutter or slide between the bottom rolled edge of the facia between it and the soffit. I like this option because I'm OCD and can't have my lights hanging in all different directions or sag between stretches on hooks or nails. Each light gets a clip so they're all pointed the same direction, at the same angle and are spaced apart perfectly!

See pic. Arrows pointing to where the clips slipped between soffit and facia.

Was very similar to this one. But this one would work the same also.

Office binder clips. On shingles the med ones work great. I would imagine large ones for your set up if I am imagining it correctly.

Hire someone before you get killed, make sure they have insurance.

Or option 2, just tell the wife it can't be done and forget about it.
