I'm thinking the motor must have been in gear and not spinning very fast. If not, he was straight as an arrow.

Lucky doesn't even begin to cover it. That is nuts.
Had a cousin on my dad's side die via propeller. He was swimming, his wife was drunk. She preceded to back the boat up, sending the prop straight into his crotch and lower stomach.
I cringe every time I think about that story.
