A friend of mine wanted me to look into on an old revolver that she found in family storage. From what I can tell it's an old S&W .32 long Hand Ejector. The last patent date on the barrel is Dec 29, 1914. It's a 5 screw I-frame, with extended wooden handle (nut sure if it's stock or aftermarket), six digit serial number starting with 302xxx Can anyone give my a close production date (thinking early 20s) and an estimated value?

That grip is huge! Looks like it belongs on an entirely different gun.

The regulation police models came standard with those grips, others were parts of special runs, and others were after market. I knew it's not a PR model because the serial number is not on the front strap.

I recently found my grandfathers old S&W 32 long hand ejector. His was nickle plated with the original (smaller) grip but had some rust damage. I called S&W for guidance and they referred me to a fellow in Phoenix who specializes in old S&W pistols. They told me he was "The" guy to go to for these old guns.

He was very helpful and professional. I decided to send the pistol to him. He freed up the stuck cylinder and ejection mechanism and test fired it for me and gave me good advise on this gun: 1) Do not keep a round in the top position of the cylinder because it might fire if dropped and 2)do not use Magtech (maybe other?) ammo as it has a very hard primer and may damage the old firing pin. He also gave me the production date.
He offered to buy it. He didn't give me a number and I didn't ask because I wasn't going to sell it. But I did go to Collectors Firearms (Houston) site and saw a couple for sale in the 300-400 range.

I hope this is helpful. Sorry I couldn't get the link to work right. I must be old.
