I was planning to bring my kayaks down to GI this weekend and camp at the state park. I just noticed that its still closed from Ida.

Anyone know of other places to camp in and around Grand Isle? Maybe even an RV park that would let me pitch a tent?

You could pitch a tent anywhere on the beach. Just put it in the grass area so the tractor can sweep the beach

FYI . Camping in Grand Isle holds the record for the most mosquitos I have ever seen in one place. It hasn’t gotten cold enough to knock them down. Never again. Good luck homeboy.

Just find a crossover and pitch it there. You should be fine.

I have never seen the law stating you can't camp on the island. There are SPOTS you can't camp at listed in the Grand Isle ordinances but the beach is never mentioned. 99% chance nobody is going to bother you. Hell people camp on the piers and nobody makes them move.

There is a town ordinance that prohibits overnight beach camping. Bridgeside should have some rooms available, if not try the Herons Nest.

Yet camping on beach is allowed in front of bridgeside.

Don’t believe me? Call Town Hall, they will be happy to advise you. Just trying to keep the original poster out of trouble.

There’s always several families camped there on the weekends. If it’s not, it’s not being enforced.

It would be nice to get the state park up and running. That really was a good deal…….

There are not many policemen on the Island, and they are not able to be at all places at one time. It is just like the golf cart ordinance, and no cars or trucks on the beach ordinance. There will always be violations that are not caught by the police. Although most folks would pick up their trash and waste, those that don’t are the reason for the ordinance. Grand Isle has done a great job of making the beach a nice place for families to enjoy but unfortunately there are those who leave trash, old tents, bbq pits etc after their party. Most of us do not need laws in order to act responsibly.

You'll likely not be bothered if you camp on the beach. I've never seen the ordinance that says you can't do it, but I've never heard someone say you can.

Sharkys rentals allows tent camping. Contact them, I'm sure it's worth the money to have a place to SSS. I assume they have facilities available, not sure.

That is sad to hear. I'd been wanting to make a Fall camping trip down there for a few years but the pieces didn't fall into place. Snooze you lose. Might try the illegal camping on beach idea.

Is there many places to park if we did just find a spot and camp?
