How is the state park these days? Been thinking of taking my son camping when it cools off a bit. Is the beach there any good for surf fishing, say mid Sept.?

my family and a bunch of friends were there this past wknd...it was windy, but that kept the heat down. Had a blast surf fishing and crabbing...didnt catch any keeper fish, just some white trout, catfish and ladyfish. Caught about 3 dz crab in 2 days.

Last year we went in October, stayed in a house. Caught flounder and reds kayaking in the state park lagoon. Caught shrimp with cast-net off the lagoon dock. The trout (white and specks) tore those shrimp up on the bridge at night.
We did not surf fish, but saw a few large reds caught there.

Do it.

we will be in a tent. How bad are the mosquitoes in October? I guess that would depend on temps/wind. I remember going years ago and leaving early because of them being so bad.

October can be hot as hell or cold as hell. You really never can tell. I went in July last year, it was pretty rough. Gnats like crazy and zero wind to kind of keep me cool. October might be better though. You should do it though, even if it's a pain in the arse for you, your son will probably enjoy it and remember it forever.

On the bright side, the showers/restroom was really nice.
