I have decided to replace the shock absorbers on my truck. I am looking for something basically to replace the OEM shocks on a 2WD 2005 Silverado. I am not looking for anything fancy or particularly high performance, but just have no idea who is making quality shock absorbers these days.

Any suggestions?

Bilstein are great. Fox are great. Find either cheapest and buy. Autoanything runs 20% off sales on Fox all the time.

You can get KYB monotube shocks at Auto zone for like $20 a piece. They ride perfectly fine

I've always thought bilsteins didn't dampen enough in the rear.

I run Gabriel ultras on my xterra, Tokiko on jeep. 4runner has bilsteins.

The ultras ride the best.

IMHO, Bilsteins are overkill for most people. Regular old shocks work fine for pretty much everyone.

Eshocks and shockwarehouse will usually have the best prices online

Yep. But they will last the lifetime of the vehicle if they are replacements. So will other high quality shocks, but they are the same price as Bilsteins.

Find out who the OEM is and just get those. High end shocks are not nearly worth it unless you're jumping cane rows IMO

Check you tie rod bushings. I just changed mine out on an 08 GMC. Helped tremendously with the ride.

They help a lot if you drive on fire roads that have braking bumps all over them. I noticeably felt my F250 shocks fade when I was working in the woods.

Another benefit comes when you're driving in New Orleans

Eta: Putting a couple hundred pounds in the bed by the tailgate helps also. I'd hate to feel mine without all of the shite I have in the toolbox and extra fuel

Driving through lakeview is the same as jumping cane rows.

There are a few holes in Midcity that are legitimately 3ft deep. This girl I used to get with lived on a street with one. It was there for the entire 5 years we hung out without cones or any work done

Fair point Hammer.

I depends on how long you'll keep your truck and what you do with your truck tho.

Time for me to replace mine as well. Have a tundra TRD. They have bilsteins on it now, figure I'd just replace with the same. I'm uneasy about just getting any regular brand b/c i have a boat.
I'm pretty sure they aren't the 5100s. I don't think I need any adjustability, so I may figure out what the OEM bilsteins are and slap those back on it.

I replaced the factory "Rancho's" on my F250 with Bilstiens and it made a huge difference in how the truck rode. Very happy with them.
