Is there any reasonable way to control Giant Sylvinia in duck ponds? It looks like we will lose some ponds if we can't find a way to knock this shite back...

Chemical control on S. molesta is difficult as it does have some resistance to herbicides. The chemical fluridon has been successfully used, but it requires prolonged contact and is not effective if it is suddenly diluted by rainwater or any other influx of water. Other chemicals such as hexazinone and diquat and double-chelated copper are used together to kill S. molesta.[

Diquat is my go to on any weed that is hard to kill. Recommended by a botanist friend. It's formulated for aquatic plants.

Very aggresive spraying. Diquat works the best, but is very expensive. I also suggest weevles. They wont have immediate impact, but they will kill it all over a long time frame. This stuff is terrible, almost ruined our property in bayou black.

forget what we used...but we mixed veg oil with it per the recommendation of my FIL. And we knocked the hell out of it.

All the dogs have shiny coats too.....win, win.

I think I heard the weevle won't work as a long term solution on larger bodies because they die off in the cold weather. The spray will kill it but unless you are constantly spraying ($$$$$$$$), it will be hard to kill it off completely.
