Looked at a 20kw model today before we build our house. Anybody have a review on them? Dont know much about them. Would like something that could power the whole house if a storm hit

My dad has one with an auto transfer switch. 5 years old no issues. Runs on natural gas. Approximately $100 a day to run it but the convenience is worth it IMO.

I have the 36kw and the auto transfer switch.

The answer to your questions depends on which level of Generac. Watercooled low RPM quiet model, or the high RPM version.

Dont think imma have NG access where we are at. Was gonna throw a propane tank in the back and feed it with that.

This is what you want, but they are also pricey. Look at other brands like Kohler and Onan (Cummins)

be sure you check out how long a propane tank will last running that generator...may not last long enough to be worth your effort.

I have a 22kw Generac running a 3500 sq ft house on a 500 gallon propane tank. The generator and a full tank will run the house for 5.5-7.5 days depending upon how much the A/C needs to run when generator on.

For residential generators, buy a Kohler. Spend a few more hundred dollars to get it. I've sold a lot of generators and I believe that Kohler is the best quality for the price.

Generac is the least dependable generator you can buy. I did a lot of research on this for a friend and concluded, all things considered, the best overall choice is Kohler. Cummings did buy Onan and the quality of their system and support is good but the enclosure's have a problem (or did). A dealer in Texas told me that when they deliver them going down the highway on a truck the enclosures fly open. Since we need them here for hurricanes that has to be a concern.

Onan builds world class gensets. I believe you get a Kubota engine on the residential models.

You need to call around to some distributors of Kohler. Price check everything because the residential gen set business is full of dishonest people. If they don't screw you on the gen set price, they get you on installation so do your homework.
