Gas Heater vs Electric Heat Pump - Pool

does anyone have some advice to share on these two?
my neighbor swears by using the gas.
but the pool contractor said an electric will do just as fine if you leave it on.
Gas Pros - gas can warm quicker and work in the winter
Gas Cons - expensive AF to run
Electric Pros - more energy efficient and cheaper
Electric Cons - not as efficient in warming and wont work in colder climates.
pool size, roughly 18x40
thoughts?

Electric can also cool the water in summer. Down here, it's what I would go with. With an attached spa the only answer is gas.

Gas is too expensive unless you are near the tropics (south florida).
Palm trees even die in our zone (louisiana). just gets too cold.
Heat pump can run full time in march/april, and oct/nov.
Keeping it covered to prevent evaporative cooling is key.
Heat pump takes a few days to get up to temp then can maintain. It has a temp delta of about 1 degree (vs gas which is about 6-7 degrees).
3 ton heat pump costs about 20 bucks to run 24/7. So 500/month to heat the pool during the extender months. Forget about "winter" unless you build a florida room or have auto-retract cover.

I’m 6 years into a 28000 gallon pool w/ heat pump, I wish a would’ve went with gas. I have a propane heater on order since I had a 1000 gallon tank buried in my yard.
