Let's see some of those gardens. Mine's pretty young due to having to replant after exterminating a mole.

I have some tomatoes turning red that should be able to be picked in a couple days. Also my string beans have small pods on them and should be ready soon too.

I have a shite ton of little yellow squash, but they don't seem to be growing as fast as they should (new variety, so not sure if normal).

I cut the vines on my new potatoes and will harvest them in a week or so.

No tomatoes oleyeller?

Next year I think I am going to really cut back on tomatoes (I have 10 this year- will likely go to 3-4 next). It seems everybody grows them and gives them away. I still have a couple dozen in the freezer from last year.

Just planted mine a few hours ago. Cucumbers, squash, peppers, sweet potato, corn, green beans, broccoli(I fear I planted too late), and cantaloupe. This is my first garden so any tips and helpful advice would be appreciated.

your garden will be late producing but not too late, just need to make sure it has plenty of water during those july and august months... as far as broccoli i dont think it makes this time of yr, but ive only ever grown it during the fall.

As far as tips, make sure enough water during dry months.
Keep a check on bugs
Keep the grass and weeds out as much as you can
when the corn gets about knee high it needs amonia put around it and plowed (not too close as to touch the corn or it will burn it. do this late in afternoon before a rain if possible.

From what I have read, you're supposed to start broccoli indoors in the fall. We will see. A few of my tomato plants look as if they have a fungus or something. Black spots on leaves are present and some have holes. Alternaria Alternata from what I've read. Not looking good so far

Any good herbicide or fungicide I should be aware of?

I grew broccoli for the first time last fall. Started some seeds indoors and also bought some plants. Easiest plant to grow IMO- didn't have to spray for anything and just tossed out some fertilizer mix.

Fresh from the garden broccoli sure beats store bought. I was amazed by the difference when I boiled it.

I will definitely plant more broccoli next fall to freeze.

I have zucchini, summer squash, spaghetti squash, tomatoes and cucumbers in mine. I've been getting a little depressed lately though all the squashes aren't doing too well. The plants are huge and green, but every squash they make just shrivels up and dies after it gets about 4" long. I've had to throw away about 15 so fare because of it.

That may actually be a product of aphids. I believe what you're seeing is sooty mold, which thrives off of the "honeydew" that aphids produce.

Sooty Mold

While the symptom is the mold, you need to treat the cause, which is the insects. I had a similar issue that nearly killed one of the indian hawthornes in front of my house. After treating it with fungicides with very little effect, I did some research and learned about the aphid issue. I ended up treating with a systemic pesticide (not really an option on your tomatoes), trimmed most of the affected shrub back, and it has begun to recover.

All I have now is one 3x5 raised box with an assortment of tomatoes and a couple peppers and a 1x3 box with a jalapeno and golden summer bell. Have quite a few japs ready to pick and a couple bells well on their way. Each tomato plant has at least one fruit, but none anywhere near ready to pick.

I had to stop growing them in my old garden after these bastards found it one year:

Seriously, it was like they waited for my plants to get pretty every year.
