your story reminds me of one of a recent restaurant outing for my family.
We were at Applebee's (don't judge, we have very few places to eat here). Just like any other meal my boys were expected to sit straight at the table, use their manners with yes/no sir, please, etc., and to eat exhibit normal table etiquette by not talking with their mouths full, keeping their elbows off the table, and using utensils appropriately. As you would guess at 6 and 7 years old they needed some gentle reminders during the meal. These were similarly delivered in polite fashion by asking "please sit straight or take your elbow off the table" or by simply giving a condoning glance, or by repeating one of their responses with the appropriate pronoun added " yes ---yes, sir"
During dinner I noticed the lady next to us continually very interested in our table as we discussed T-ball and baseball.
Her table was seated with a family of 5 all morbidly obese, sloppily dressed, and overtly loud and rude. The 8 or 9 yr old boy seated in the isle actually turned and said to a passing waitress "Hey! I need more coke" without any correction from his loud, 9 finger ring wearing, burping, cheese fry devouring mother.
When they were done eating, she actually came over to my table and with no hesitation or remorse told me "You shouldn't be so hard on those boys, you have to let them live."
Momentarily stunned by her stupidity and audacity, and grasping for a dignified response I heard my wife chime in "You are correct, it is kind of hard on them here, we should eat in higher class establishments"

not really. She is an exhibitionist though. When drunk, but never sober. I, on the other hand, am a manwhore. Or so I've been labeled.
