Free Mags
3 free magazine for XD-s bought from June-August. Won't help us all but hope that $150 worth of free gear was worth sharing if someone recently bought or planning on it.

[flame shield] It would take a bigger incentive than that for me to carry an XD. [/flame shield]

I point mine, I pull the trigger, and I hit what I'm aiming at.

Nothing wrong with mine.

I am curious to hear the reasoning behind this.

Too many excellent SD handgun choices that don't have an external safety:
M&P
Glock
SIG
HK

If someone really feels the need for an external safety, the XDs are a good choice. They have a great "out of the box" trigger. They have proven to be reliable (if you deactivate the external safety). More power to those that want them.

But of all the defensive handgun classes I've taken I've yet to hear a valid reason for an external safety on a personal SD handgun.

SD handguns belong in a holster (one that covers the trigger). That's an external safety right there. You can't make the gun discharge while it's in good holster.

Military weapons have external safeties -- but the military branches have to buy weapons to accommodate the lowest common denominator. External safeties are pretty good features to have on these guns that are issued to the .mil masses. (I don't know how the USMC procurement folks have decided to issue Glocks. But more power to them).

Shotguns and rifles have external safeties -- but they aren't carried in holsters (holsters that cover the trigger). External safeties are good features to have on these guns, too.

But people get really passionate about this stuff -- thus the flame shield in my earlier post. The folks who get riled up the most are often the ones who say, "It's simple to deactivate the XD safety," or "Mine has never failed to deactivate when I grip the gun."

But most of these folks don't carry in a holster and don't practice at the range drawing from a holster. Coming out of the holster in a SHTF situation may not result in a solid firing grip on their handgun (because you were grabbing the gun in a big-arsed hurry while someone is trying to kill you or a family member ....... or when you're fighting off a gun-grabbing thug who has taken a liking to your gun.)

If that were to happen to me, I hope I'm carrying a revolver, or one of the top-tier semi-autos listed above ...... 'cause that's when I'd really want//need a "point & shoot" weapon.

Somewhere over 80% (I've seen numbers in excess of 85%) of LEO's in the US carry an M&P, a Glock, a SIG or an HK. Where I come from this is called a clue.

I've seen one (1) cop carrying an XD. He said he loves it. More power to him. His agency didn't issue it to him - it was on the agency's approved list, and he bought it. The agency he worked for is the Beaumont, Texas Independent School District.

TLDR: Buy whatever you want. But there are better reasons//criteria to consider than "free mags." (The fact that XD is giving away free mags might mean that they're desperately trying to boost dismal sales numbers). If you're a person who is (a) 100% certain that you can't possibly F-up the grip safety under stress (b) and/or during a struggle with a 300 lb.thug who wants your weapon, and (c) you like the XD, by all means get one (or several).

Just my $.02

Flame suit back on.

I'm a Walther/HK guy, but come on, man. the chances of grabbing the gun without disengaging the grip safety are astronomically small.

in pic 1, you can't even pull the trigger
in pic 2 and 3, if you somehow managed to pull the trigger, the gun would fly out of your hand and you would hurt yourself

XDs are glocks with less shitty grip angles

I'll have to presume that you know a lot more about handguns than I do, and that your defensive handgun training far exceeds the modest amount I've received.

Then again .............. if the sum total of your knowledge of handgun firing grips, and your comprehension of the term "astronomically small," are expressed in those photos ........

I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Laws.
