Is the beach open? Ive heard different reports. Thanks.

I believe the correct answer is yes and no. No, meaning you can not simply drive up to it as you once could years ago. Yes, meaning you can access it from the Gulf side via boat. If this is wrong someone can correct me.

A certain someone thinks they own that beach...

the beach is public up to the land covered by the highest tide in the winter. so you can always access it by boat. Whether the landowner btw you and the nearest road will allow you to cross his property to get to the beach is another story. a-holes ruin it for everyone.

Not from land. You can access the beach from the water as high as the mean winter high tide mark. Above that is owned by various landowners
It's stupid the way it's set up really. Based on old laws from the Mediterranean Sea area of the world.

Have you been out there lately? At one point the "owners" drove pylons across the beach to block off access. You can still see them on Google Earth.

Would that be Wisner Foundation?

The pilings were installed by the Caillouet land company. When you hit Elmers island, if you turn right you will eventually run into them. They blocked off that beach. Zero access for the public. Not even from the gulf.

pilings were installed above beach line, on private property. Calloulette(however you spell it) got tired of people trashing the place, then claiming a public servitude of access.
you can still access the beach, just not thru their property. Civil Code article 451 defines "seashore" and 452 makes it public.

Are 100% sure about this? This is a pretty well documented shite show. Those pilings have been the subject of a lot of debate. This is the first time I have ever heard someone suggest those pilings were on public property.
The Caillouet family put these pilings there specically to block access. Charlotte Randolph had the ones on the west side the removed.
The ones on the east side are still there.

is anything stopping you from launching at Bridgeside Marina and boating over there? Landing on the beach? Fishing?
Just b/c you can't drive your truck on the beach doesn't mean you have no access to public property. Not many spots where you can drive your car to the Miss River either, and that is state owned.
Who is Charlotte Randolph?

This makes no sense whatsoever. This debate has been going on for 20 years, if you don't believe me go ahead and try and land you boat on the beach.

Lafourche Parish President. She is the one who got the pilings removed. Again, the Caillouet land co drove pilings in the sand to stop vehicle access on what you are arguing is a public beach...

Well, Caillouett has more stroke than the Elmer Family. Jindal just nationalized their property to allow public access to the public beach. Beats $7 million.
Anyhow, just boat to the beach and see if the sheriff gives you a ticket. For $5K Motorboat and I will rep you in the criminal case for trespassing. The seashore is public. If we have to hire an expert on locating the winter tide line, that'll be extra.

I really don't see what the issue is.

...used to be fun to go out there and camp out...flounder at night ...catch trout surf fishing...drag up wood for bon fires on the beach... cooking breakfast of fresh speckled trout and drinking coffee early in the morning...that beach went out hundreds of yards from where you first hit it from the road to it...
I always took out more trash than I made...unfortunately...very few others did...
it really is sad but I understand why...

The issue is the land owners shut off the public from accessing public property. Then they drove pilings in the sand to cut the public off other access points that were not under their control.
The beach, as far as I know, is currently closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
The only way for anything to change around there is for people to stop spending money in Lafourche parish. Without tourism, they don't have much.
