This spring while turkey hunting I found an area with a lot of deer sign and am going to do some scouting this weekend.

Typically, when is the peak of the rut for this area?

Among the earliest in the State. First week of October.

Do you have a lot of experience hunting in Fort Polk?

October seems really early for the rut. I was expecting something along the lines of late November to early December.

North of here (Natch./Winn) it is mid/late November. I have hunted in Vernon Parish fairly close to Fort Polk for the last couple of years and have seen chasing go on from the first day. First two weeks of the season for me have been the best.
